Art School Workshops (Full Day/Weekend)
Our full day and weekend courses offer a more intensive learning experience and chance to work with our practicing artists who are passionate about sharing their experience. Basic materials are included in the price – higher priced courses reflect higher materials costs, technical input, life model fees and ceramics firings. There may be occasional small additional charges for specialist materials. We need a minimum of people for a course to run and courses may be cancelled if this is not achieved. Dates are subject to change and new courses may be added.
Also see our Summer Schools program in July/ August, so if you are after some full day or several days immersive art experiences check them out here: General 4 — Northlight Art Studios (northlightstudio.co.uk)
Artists’ Pigments and Gesso Surfaces
with Heather Boxall
Saturday 29th March 2025
10am to 4pm
This one day workshop will introduce you to mixing dry pigments with oil based binding mediums, to make your own artists oil colour. Also, you will learn how to create a gesso recipe and apply it to a painting surface. Gesso is white primer used to prepare a surface for painting. Typically, Gesso is made from a combination of chalk or calcium carbonate and a binder. Traditional gesso used animal glue as a binder, while modern acrylic gesso uses an acrylic polymer medium. Please note for this workshop we will be following a traditional recipe using rabbit skin glue as the binder.
