“MEMORY and LOSS”
I am, essentially, a sculptor. My current practice explores my personal experiences of death.
Bones are invisible structures hidden within: the scaffolding supporting soft tissues and allowing them to move, yet ultimately, paradoxically remain long after death and organic decomposition have set in.
I have intuitively sculpted various bones as well as cast, press-moulded and thrown cinerary jars for the containment of ashes. Then, seeking to combine printmaking and sculpture, I added elements of radiographic imagery using traditional and computer-aided printmaking techniques.
My intellectual understanding and attitude towards death, and the personal connections I was privileged to experience along the way, form the backbone of this body of work.
Additionally, I am currently working on the important public commission of a statue commemorating the late Poet Laureate Ted Hughes, which is to be cast in iron at Hargreaves Foundry in Halifax and erected in Mytholmroyd.
